I voted Levers (But only XTR level) otherwise less expensive twist shifters work better I have found, but my gear is all 3years+ old and alot has changed.  I find that Levers work best for aggressive freeride and downhill. if you have to hold on hard for control twist shifters are a problem.

for smoother singletrack it's a toss up..  Twist shifters are easier to maintain and cheaper typically, but the rear derailleur makes a huge difference as to which shifter works better.  SRAM uses a faster leverage ratio...

To add confusion my other favorite setup was a twist shifter for the front derailleur so you can trim the middle gear so the chain isn't rubbing on stuff. much easier and possible.  push button shifter on the right side.

I voted grip just because, when living in MA and riding frequently, I found it hard to shift correctly with levers if I had to quickly.  Like if I was going up a steep hill and had to shift into a lower gear quickly or risk tumbling down the hill, hitting several trees on my way.

I switched over to grip shifts and it was just easier to shinola where I wanted while under pressure.  Levers are probably better overall though.

So did they allow you to stop faster so you could go shinola in the woods?  Other than that, not sure what bike shifts have to do with shinola.  Tongue

Looks like I missed an F in there somewhere.  I'll blame the keyboard.
