another random question

Because Tiff's question was so good I want to ask one.

When is it or isn't it prudent to park on the side walk?

I usually do at Target (and I leave my helmet on BTW)

I question it at tempe market place. Is it cool to leave your motorcycle by the bicycle rack? What is your thoughts?

At Tempe market place i see bikes parked by the bike racks all the time. I parked my bike there all the time and did not have any issues.

I only park my bike on the sidewalk when you park YOUR bike on the sidewalk, because I figured you KNEW when it was ok to park on the sidewalk.  Now I see that you have just been winging it and I feel a little deluded.

I park my car on the sidewalk all the time.  crappity smack 'em.

Good Question - so would it be better to take a parking space in a crowded parking lot or park on the sidewalk

I guess that would depend. I am always afraid some jack-ass will not pay attention and fly into a space without looking and run my bike over.

hey thanks! Nice question adrenaline.
I think it depends on a few things for me. If I plan on being in the building for a short amount of time, or its super hot out, I'll park on the sidewalk in the shade, if any. Otherwise if I'm going to the mall or something with adequate parking, I'll use the cross-grid space around handicapped spaces, well away from where the actual vehicle and doors would be, or just park out where there are less cars. I tend to lean towards keeping my bike closer to where people are since I can't watch the bike, if I'm going to be some where for a bit.

That sorta happened to Colby's bike in a home depot parking spot. He went in to return something. About 2 minutes later a lady came up to him and asked, is that your black bike outside? He said, Yeah, why?. She said some car had backed up into it then took off. Of course she didn't get info on the plates or anything, so he was stuck with a broken front brake lever and a dented tank. crappy. I remember how pissed he was and saying how riding home with only a back brake was not fun.

i know i'm ringin' in late on these, but anywho...
i park my bike on the sidewalk whenever i can (i.e. when there IS a sidewalk).  some people might consider it rude, but i've never heard of anyone getting a ticket for it, and you KNOW your bke is safer there, so wth?

It doesn't seem to be a problem in Arizona, but in Washington I was excited to get a bike because you could park on the sidewalk. Parking is a premium there, but then they started being a-holes and ticketing them at the Mall.

I park on any sidewalk that has enough room to park on. The only thing I worry about is blocking handicap access, since that is one of those things that could get just about anyone (including cops) significantly frustrated.
