Sweet, sweet games
May 03rd, 2010, 11:12am

Hey all,

Just recently picked up a bitching gaming laptop (asus g73jh-a1) and some games to go along with it.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 - This game is just friggin sweet.  I haven't spent an incredible amount of time in it because I only got it a bit ago.. but definitely a favorite.

Metro 2033:  This is kind of like the new 'Crysis'.  It's the game people are using to test out their systems and see how high they can push the settings before their system sputters out.  My g73 runs just under max settings before it starts to slow down FPS. DX11

Dirt 2: This is another one of these 'test your system' type games.  DX11.  Super fun rally racing game.

Starcraft 2 Beta:  Pre-order starcraft 2 @ gamestop and you'll end up with a beta key to this.  OK, so I really really suck at this game right now.  At least compared to my competition.  Still, I'm improving and this thing is worthy of wasting some time on.

Crysis:  Still awesome.

Any of you guys play these on PC?

Admittedly I used to play Cstrike, but after steam took it over it wrecked it for me. That and the M$ rule that you have to pay alot for the OS but you can only reinstall 5 times turned me off to PC gaming and M$ totally. I did buy an Xbox but within 1 year my son went through 3 of them and within 2 years mine died plus the limitation of not being able to stream from my linux box I decided I may look into the PS3. If it will stream from my Linux box and it won't red ring, I may purchase one of those!!

Steam is actually pretty decent once you realize what it does...

ok so I install game X on computer A.  It has a CD key associated with it.  At the end of the install it registers my install using that cd key to some server somewhere.  I go to install it on computer B.  maybe it works.  By the time I go to reinstall on computer C or A.. the game company is thinking I've registered with that key one too many times and denies the registration.

Steam makes it where it doesn't matter how many computers you install the game on.  as long as you are logged in with your steam account.. that game registration follows you.

On top of that.. once a game is under that 'steam' system.. I no longer actually need the physical disks.  It will download the game on any machine I login with via the steam client.

I thought it sucked at first, too.

If you buy a  PS3 walmart has an extended warranty for 3 years for about ~$30 well worth it..

I hated Stream also, but now I have realized I wish all games came that way.. because also it keeps the installed files in one directory so that it doesn't corrupt the OS requiring all those new installs.. plus it has a backup feature which is way cool..  Updates are delivered easily too... Plus I don't have to keep track of all the CD's and the little pieces of paper with Serial numbers...

I hate the limited OS installs that MS does and registering the computer.. hardware for gamers constantly changes...  Vista Pissed me off, Windows 7.0 at least works but now I went from 7 PC's to 2 mac's and 2 laptops (one I put hackintosh on ), and 1 PC gaming machine with XP and windows 7.0.  I run VMWare with my older XP machine for applications and hardware that doesn't have mac equivalents.. The switch also saved me almost $100 a month in reduced electricity bills because I replaced 3 PC with my Mac Pro, so the room is cooler so my AC doesn't run as much plus minus probably 1500watts in powersupplies.  I switched to 2 NAS's that consume less than 70watts at full tilt each versus the 1000watt powersupplies and energy

I love Crysis, it's my go-to game when I want to "wow" friends with graphics. Haven't heard of Metro 2033 though..what's that like?
